MARK ANTHONY ABBOTT

Singer - Songwriter

Singer-songwriter Mark Anthony Abbott has an interesting background which stands him in good stead for his late-chosen career.

Mark has been a strapper, jockey, shearer, wool presser, drover, and a cook for a team of sheep-mulesers in the Northern Territory. He has hitch-hiked around Australia, lived with a family of Aboriginals outside Blackall & drove horses from town to town on agistment. He was a street kid in Brisbane before that term was even thought of.

Musically Mark has had an almost equally good grounding ... in the late 1960s he joined a Queensland band called The Impacts, in Blackall, as a singer. Mark moved on as a vocalist for various bands in Longreach, when The Impacts moved to theGold Coast. It wasn't long before Mark, too, moved to the Coast and rejoined The Impacts, For the next five years he sang with the group at the El Rancho Restaurant in Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise.

In 1993, he rejoined a Longreach band, "The In Crowd", for a one-night reunion gig at the local school centenary ball. This re-involvement in music triggered Mark into song-writing - and his life's experiences proved a rich source for storylines.

Mark started writing songs in 1993 and in 1995, He released his album. His song "Teardrops & Moonbeams" was a finalist in the New Songwriter Award in Tamworth. Mark met many country music fans and friends in Tamworth. In 1996, Mark's songs, "I love that Rock & Roll", and "The Game of Life", were finalists in the New Zealand Gore Gold Guitar Awards. Also in 1996, "I Love that Rock & Roll", came third in the South Pacific International Song Contest, Which attracted three thousand entries from around the world. In 1999, "I will always love you" came second in the Spirit of Australia Country gold Awards.

In January 2000, Mark was invited to submit a song called "The Game of Life" he had written for his wife Wendy in 1994, to be included on a compilation album, headed up by the great Johnny Cash and June Carter-Cash. The album was released in Europe and the USA . Wendy passed away aged 43 on October 10th 1999.

Mark has since signed a contract to collaborate with a writer from Atlanta for a one song agreement and has written the lyrics for a song called "Glory Train". In August 2001, Mark wrote a song called "Crying Alcoholic Tears" and the song was recorded in Nashville by Michael Lusk and produced by Nashville Producer Dick Mcvey.

Teardrops And Moonbeams, contains four covers and 10 originals. Again Mark's background plays a big part -- it has provided him with graphic storylines; it has allowed him to sing them with vocals charged with an emotion that comes from personal experience.
